BIKES FOR HIRE
Bikes For Hire is another watercolour on yupo. It was originally painted on rough paper with a background but after some consideration I decided to paint it in a more abstract style and leave out the background.Colours blend into each other making it one continous shape. It is the wheels and mirrors that tell us what the subject is.This is a new approach for me.One never stops learning.

Winter Persimmons
After 18 months not painting I now feel I have the energy to put brush to paper. This is my first effort and I am very happy with the result. It is painted on smooth watercolour paper which is a change for me as I have preferred rough in the past.I have achieved a cool winter atmosphere with the persimmons adding a lovely contrast. This is another limited palette painting that does justice to the subject.

Reference paintings
These are my little reference paintings used to create the large yupo painting below. Most times when painting quickly and not labouring over it I manage to create a lively and spontaneous image.

My Biggest Painting
THE DANCER |
Acrylic on canvas was a challenge but a very satisfying result with finished painting. The same drawings and photos from The Carnivale Is Over were used as reference. I enjoy using lines and leaving personal marks. A very simple subject placed in just the right position on the canvas.

New Painting Technique
This is something quite different for me.Drawings of this costume have been scattered around my studio since they were completed a few years ago.I was fascinated by the lineal mark and flow of colour. Finally I used these drawings to create the painting here using watercolour pencil and a little paint on yupo. The upper part of the painting was kept dry and so has a hard line but I used water in the lower section to soften the fabric and give it more movement.A very satisfying project.
